The Greenbrier Artists are a group of over 70 working artists who meet every Thursday morning during the school year to paint at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg, WV. Throughout the year we have we have workshops, demos, critiques, exhibits, and paint-outs. Dues are minimal and all are welcome to join.

Genevieve Gillen


"Sunlit Sweet Peas" watercolor


Genevieve Sowards Gillen is a member of Greenbrier Artists and West Virginia Watercolor Society. She is serving as Vice President of Monroe County Arts Alliance, having been President twice. Gillen lives on Swopes Knobs. She has spent the past ten years studying with diverse artist-teachers in six states after teaching fifty years, pre-school through graduate university. As a painter, Gillen likes watercolor, oil, pastels, and colored pencil. Several dozen art workshops have been held in her mountaintop gallery, taught by teachers from West Virginia and North Carolina.
